Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

Community Supported Agriculture consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation so that the farmland becomes, either legally or spiritually, the community’s farm, with the growers and consumers providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production. Typically, members or “share-holders” of the farm or garden pledge in advance to cover the anticipated costs of the farm operation and farmer’s salary. In return, they receive shares in the farm’s bounty throughout the growing season, as well as satisfaction gained from reconnecting to the land and participating directly in food production. Members also share in the risks of farming, including poor harvests due to unfavorable weather or pests. By direct sales to community members, who have provided the farmer with working capital in advance, growers receive better prices for their crops, gain some financial security, and are relieved of much of the burden of marketing.

Wynn Family Farm CSA Details

Each new harvest year you are able to buy a share in the harvest of Wynn Family Farm. In exchange, you get a season’s worth of products. CSA’s foster a connection and commitment to the farm. 2010 is our CSA’s third year.

The Benefits

You will have access to a portion of our harvest–ownership. The produce will always be local and fresh and grown with a minimum to no pesticides. You will know where your food comes from; it is food with a farmer’s face. First and foremost, you will receive the harvest before it goes to market.

What to Expect

The targeted average share is about 12 – 15 lbs of produce per week. The quantity is suitable for two adults who like to cook and eat primarily at home or for a family of four otherwise. If it seems like too much, consider either a half share option, or ask a friend to go in with you on a full share.

A share is seasonal, and the amounts and types of products depend on the time of year, growing conditions, crop successes and failures, etc. The length of the season will be from the first week of May through the end of September (20 deliveries) or the first week of June through the end of August (12 deliveries). The months with 5 weeks will give you one week with no produce share. You may choose a full share or a half share over the same months. The half share receives a delivery every other week.

In addition to vegetable and optional fruit and flower menus, shares may occasionally include cut flowers, brown eggs, and pork (if you so prefer). We will also include credit towards purchases at our farmstand at the Fayetteville Farmer’s Market.

Program Options

Program 1: HEART OF THE SEASON MENU

Delivered to the depot over a 12-week period from June through August (up to 4 deliveries per month, but *no 5th-week deliveries). June, July, and August are when the bulk of our vegetables arrive and, usually, in heavy quantities. We can, therefore, accept more families for these months.  The veggies in these months are much more “traditional” in nature. The Heart of the Season Menu offerings are traditional in nature, and appropriate for those who want to avoid the spring greens or winter squashes or pumpkins.

Season: June through August
Offered since: new program in 2010
Whole share: $360/12 weekly deliveries**
Half share: $215/6 bimonthly deliveries

Program 2: SPRING, SUMMER, AND FALL MENU

Our traditional CSA Program, this menu adds the months of May and September to the Heart of the Season Menu (above). This adds 8 deliveries for a whole share and 4 deliveries for a half share. Because production is slower during May and September, we will only be able to accept a limited number of subscriptions for the Spring, Summer, and Fall Menu.

Season: May through September
Since: 2008
Full Share: $600/20 weekly deliveries**
Half Share: $350/10 bimonthly deliveries

**In the past, we offered the opportunity for two separate families to split a whole share. Once again, you may do this for both menus. Unlike last year, however, you will need to alternate pick-up weeks between yourselves.

Program Alternatives:
FRUIT PLATE

In the past, we have added fruit (berries, peaches, grapes, apples, etc.) to the shares at our expense. This year, fruits will be offered as an addition to your share.

How to Join

The FINAL DEADLINE for joining will be MARCH 31, 2010. Payment will be due then for the whole season. Shares will start the first week of May or June, depending on the “menu” you choose. Send your payment to Dwight Wynn, 15608 W. Battlefield, Prairie Grove, AR  72753, or drop it off on Saturday mornings at the old bus depot in Fayetteville on S. School St. from 9:00-noon.

A Note about Absences

In the event you are unable to pick-up your share for the week, please designate a family member or friend to do so for you. We won’t be able to offer make-ups at the end of the season this year. It is very difficult to find enough product to do this, and it becomes an accounting nightmare!

Winter Market

We also offer a winter subscription program. You must subscribe to receive weekly email produce lists from December 1 through March 31. For more information about the winter market, visit the winter market information page.
