I just wanted to let you know that this Wednesday, July 14th, we will have PEACHES! I have already sampled them and they are delicious. John and Beth Aselage, our beloved apple farmers, as it turns out are pretty darn good peach growers! These peaches are the size of baseballs. John is highly selective in packing his pecks so that you get what you pay for and more. I am very proud to be offered the opportunity to sell for them and I hope all of you will come out and support the Aselages.

I can take orders. This would help me know how many to plan for. I also expect lots of walk-ups though because we are going to use signage this week. I know his prices are similar to apples, $5.00 per 1/4 peck but I am waiting for pricing in larger quantities.

Hope to see you then, candye

WE HAVE MARKET WEDNESDAY, MAY 12th, FROM 3:00 to 6:00PM AT THE OLD DEPOT!

If you want to make sure a product is waiting for you, please pre-order! Of course, we ask as always to pre-order any pork requests (Wednesdays only).

Tomato Club folks, please be patient with me. We are in the midst of re-locating, and after 13 years here, we are fairly entrenched. Computer work has to take a backseat for awhile. We hope to have Spence and Carla from Across the Creek Farm this week with eggs. Deana Dickey will be here with strawberries. I don’t know how many she will have. They are $6.00/quart or 6 quarts for $32 if you want to process. Great quality and flavor!

Brick House Kitchen has officially changed their hours to Wednesday through Saturday from 5:00-9:00pm. I hear they are doing great! Come out and try yourself.

……………………………………………..

HERE’S WHAT WE HAVE FOR ORDER THIS WEEK:

WREN THICKET GARDENS – DEBRA ELAM AND DARIN MCDONALD – GREENLAND:

WYNN’S TOMATO RANCH – DWIGHT & CANDYE WYNN – VINEY GROVE:

PLEASE ORDER FOR HIGH DEMAND ITEMS…I JUST FEEL TERRIBLE WHEN I MUST TURN SOMEONE AWAY. IF I RUN SHORT, I WILL CONTACT YOU BEFORE YOU MAKE THE TRIP DOWN TO THE DEPOT UNNECESSARILY. NO TOMATOES OR CUCUMBERS UNTIL JUNE. DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED!

Our animals are given a stimulated, healthy, free life. They are never given antibiotics (they don’t need it our way) or hormones (we let nature work on its time table.) They are never caged. We give them cover and fodder for their nests (which is like a giant bird’s nest) and our children love them and care for them. They are processed in a USDA-inspected facility and come to you fresh. They will appear more like beef, but it’s all pork. You may have to add fat with some cuts! We received no cured products this year again to avoid adding back chemicals. If you want to make sausage, our ground pork is perfect; and we will offer a sausage recipe if you are interested. I have been given several interesting sausage recipes (including breakfast sausage, sweet/spicy sausage, & Italian sausage); if someone would like to try, let me know!

Good Morning Folks!

WE HAVE MARKET TOMORROW, APRIL 14TH, FROM 3:00-6:00 P.M. AT THE OLD DEPOT!

Each week during this season I will send an emailer to inform you of our Wednesday and then our Saturday on the square markets for the given week. If you want to be removed from these weekly emails please inform us right away.

We are still under the slower days of quantity so if you want to make sure a product is waiting for you, please pre-order! Of course, we ask as always to pre-order any pork requests (Wednesdays only).

When we made our announcement regarding the end of winter tomatoes, there was a collective gasp from you tomato lovers out there. I have two plans for returning tomatoes to the dark side of the calendar in a limited way. It will be called the “Tomato Club” and if you are interested (really only serious lovers of those red orbs need apply) please refer to the ”CLUB” in an email and I will add you to the information mailer that will come out in the next month. Martha, Tom, Ysmenia AND JILL ;o) …I already have your names on the list!!! The response for “the club” continues to gain favor…if we can get to 100 it will be viable. More information to follow, stay tuned!

At the end of today’s produce list is a letter from David Lewis, the executive chef of Brickhouse Kitchen. He has some exciting news to share and I hope you will take time to scroll down and read about his latest venture.

Spence from Across the Creek Farm is hoping to come tomorrow. This would be a great time to talk “turkey” with him as well as pick up some great eggs.

Greetings!

We are growing into Spring at Brick House Kitchen!

We are currently finalizing the details of our new Spring menu AND we are officially engaged in the design of our new Kafé at Nightbird Books at Dickson Street. We are excited about our developing ideas for the Kafé, and to accommodate them, we have decided to make a major change at the Kitchen also.

Next week, Wednesday, 14 April 2010, we will introduce our Spring menu and serve it during the dinner hours rather than at lunch. As of next Wednesday, our official operating hours at Brick House Kitchen will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Wednesdays through Saturdays.

Best,
David

Each week during this season I will send an email to inform you of our Wednesday and then our Saturday on the square markets for the given week. If you want to be removed from these weekly emails please inform us right away.

With the end of winter market, we now transition to our spring, summer, and fall growing season. In 2010, Deb and I and will continue to offer a mid-week (Wednesday) market. Carla and Spence will be a permanent fixture this year as well!! Welcome. The hours are 3:00-6:00 in the afternoon at the depot. The first gathering will be April 7th. As the weather warms we will move outside and you will be able to drive right up.

Unlike winter, you don’t HAVE to order unless you just want to make sure that something is particularly held back for you. Because of the heat issue we do ask that you pre-order any meat requests and they will only be sold at the Wednesday market.

As for this Saturday, the first Saturday on the square market, the weather is to start out badly. This may keep us from setting up early but we will hang in there until the weather clears. Our vendor location this year will be on the south side of the square across from the Town Center. David and Deana are next door to us on the corner, Deb will float to different locations throughout the year so be on the lookout for her. Mr. Horn will still sell from the west side. Babe and Marilyn are on the east and when Mr. Timmons family comes they will be close to them. Across the Creek and Sycamore Valley egg vendors will float as well. I don’t know for sure where Mr. Morgan will be.

What a fine cool morning!

I have begun to gear up for the beginnings of winter market. The question seems to be our scheduling. We will of course go back to Saturday morning 9:00-12:00 noon the first Saturday in December, the 5th I believe. It will be a hope for us to also include a mid-week market to accomodate those who just can’t work in a Saturday, but that will of course depend on quantities.

Just a reminder of where we are located: on south 71 also called South School St., kitty corner across from City Lumber at the old bus depot. We meet on Wednesdays (for now) from 2:00 p.m. – DARK.

This week’s market will be inside the depot because of cool temperatures and rain.

I have been planting and planning for winter. We have invited a few others to join us when they can this winter. I hope we can all fit into the space. This gives you more options and helps a farming family to make ends meet during the winter.

Our fall crop of tomatoes was devastated by the rain and sunless days from August 15 through October 30. The normal Christmas tomatoes are expected no sooner than usual and maybe a bit later. We will have a huge gap in production from now until the later tomatoes begin to produce. We ask your patience but more your prayers.

Just a reminder that Brickhouse Kitchen has started preparing from their new fall menu!!! Their hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00a.m.-2:00p.m.

Another reminder the market on the square continues for 1 more Saturday. Our little market will hold session through November. One change will be the week of Thanksgiving. Instead of meeting Wednesday of that week, we will meet Tuesday so as not to conflict with those who will be traveling and wish to take our goodies with them. The first Saturday in December begins our winter market and we will continue with that through the end of March; God willing.

A SPECIAL OFFERING! Madolyn and I are custom building wreaths and swags for Christmas. If you are interested or have questions, let us know. The choices that we can offer will be white pine boughs, cedar boughs, or wild grape vine. We can make them in different sizes and shapes. If you choose we will add wild buckbrush berries for adornment. We will take orders this week and next!

Here’s what we have for the week if you need to order:

DEANA IS COMING!!! SHE WILL HAVE SWEET POTATOES, WINTER SQUASH, AND CARROTS.

WREN THICKET GARDENS- Deb and Darin

WREN THICKET GOURMET SALAD MIX-Includes 5 to 7 tender green, red and varigated lettuces, black kale, frilly kale, rainbow chard, mizuna, ruby streaks, endive, sorrel and various other gourmet greens as they are ready to harvest. Grown "naturally" without chemicals or pesticides.Carefully hand picked, mixed and packaged just before delivery to you! …..1/2 lb $5.00

LETTUCES ONLY MIX- Mixture of green, red, and varigated lettuces. 5 to 7 different kinds……1/2 lb. $5.00

ARUGULA- Two types available- please pick preference. ASTRO: salad arugula with lobed leaves and mild taste.

SURREY: wild arugula appearence, rich spicy flavor without too much heat…..$2.50 bunch

FRESH PORK:

Our animals are given a stimulated, healthy, free life. They are never given antibiotics (they don’t need it our way) or hormones (we let nature work on its time table.) They are never caged. We give them cover and fodder for their nests (which is like a giant bird’s nest) and our children love them and care for them. They are processed in a USDA-inspected facility and come to you fresh. They will appear more like beef, but it’s all pork. You may have to add fat with some cuts! We received no cured products this year again to avoid adding back chemicals. We also requested no sausage to avoid the MSG. If you want to make sausage, though, our ground pork is perfect; and we will offer a sausage recipe if you are interested. I have been given several interesting sausage recipes (including breakfast sausage, sweet/spicy sausage, & Italian sausage); if someone would like to try, let me know!

If interested ask about our homemade Lard and Cracklin’s. This isn’t grocery store lard. It is brown like bacon drippings with absolutely no additives just rendered pork fat. The cracklin’s are homemade pork rind without seasonings. Excellent for use in cornbread…a staple of the Wynn family.

Good Week to All!

I apologize for sending this out so late. Mondays are for us just as they are for most of you. Remember you can order through Wednesday morning until about 9:00a.m.

Welcome to the mid-week market that soon will once again fill the needs of winter. We haven’t continued through the year before as we did this year, but it has been a success and a learning experience; and it has also given us the desire to try new ideas!

Just a reminder of where we are located: on south 71 also called south School St., kitty corner across from City Lumber at the old bus depot. We meet on Wednesdays (for now) from ….NOTE THE NEW TIME BECAUSE OF THE TIME CHANGE… 2:00 p.m. – DARK

I have been planting for winter. Not so much in the root family just for space concerns but lots of greens and new varieties to add to our greens mixes. Dwight has dedicated all of house 4 to strawberries. Though not heated, strawberries should do quite well and with just a little grace we may see the red buggars by January. Wouldn’t that be wonderful!

Those who have faithfully stayed with our vision this fall have probably heard by now that our fall crop of tomatoes was devastated by the rains from August 15 through October 30. The normal Christmas tomatoes are expected no sooner than usual and maybe a bit later because of the sunless days of August, September, and October. All of this to say, we will have a huge gap in production from now until the later tomatoes begin to produce. We ask your patience but more your prayers. Tomatoes have always constituted the bulk of our income, and this makes times difficult. I am reminded though that "the fervent effectual prayer of a righteous man availeth much…" Our spirits are high, and our future bright.

Just a reminder that Brickhouse Kitchen has started preparing from their new fall menu!!! Their hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00a.m.-2:00p.m.

Another reminder the market on the square continues for 2 more Saturdays only.
